International child abduction

The abduction of a child occurs when a parent or another person takes a child from his or her place of habitual residence. The situation can be deemed an abduction whether it occurs from city to city, province to province or country to country.

One of the main objectives of the Hague Convention is to ensure the immediate return of a child under 16 years of age to his or her country of habitual residence.

The break-up of a family is, on many levels, a very difficult situation to navigate, whether or not internal or international repercussions are at stake.
